1st time ex pat for Argentina

by Jim Lavine
(Bogota)

I am interested in relocating to BA. Can anyone recommend a real estate service and/or web sites to search for an apartment. Also, the most desired areas to live in and around BA. My rental budget for a 1 bedroom or studio apartment is between $600 to 900. I appreciate your replies.

1st time ex pat suggestions
by: Laura Zurro

Hi, if you're considering relocating I suggest that you rent a temporary apartment first so you can meet with different real estate agents and get the "lay of the land" so to speak. This will give you time to walk different neighborhoods and see what feels most comfortable to you.

Also, be aware that in Argentina owners often request a "guarantia" before renting an apartment (foreigner or not) because the laws tend to favor tenants. Basically this is a guarantee that they will receive their rent in case you default but it's a guarantee of someone elses property. It may be possible to prepay quarterly or even a year upfront but not always so keep this in mind when you start looking.
