A TCK tells you about living in Chile

by Lorete Feka
(Chile)

Chile is a very long and thin country, so we have all kinds of climates: from the desert climate up north to the arctic climate down south, with oceans and mountains spread throughout, that come with their own vegetation. This, in turn, brings a never-ending list of activities including fishing, hiking, golfing, wine tasting, surfing, horse back riding, diving, mountain and volcano climbing, white water rafting and many more. In short there are attractions in Chile for every tourist's taste.

The variety of climates all year round makes it possible to develop such wonderful food and beverages like the world famous Chilean wine. But if you would like something stronger than wine, try Chile's national drink the pisco sour.

If activities are your thing Chile’s covered with mountains and national parks from top to bottom offering tons of excursions to all sorts of places such as Patagonia, Torres Del Paine and more. But if you’re tired of mountains, go up a volcano and look down the crater, there’s something different!

Because I've lived here and speak the language like a native, I also have had a lot of interaction with Chileans and can tell you that they are very friendly and curious about visitors. On the other hand, the Chilean culture is fascinating once you get into it!

There are so many great things about Chile that you must experience personally; I can only tell you so much about it like, what you will find and taste but the feeling of being in this country has to be experienced in person. All I can tell you is that it’s very special and if you get the chance to travel to this beautiful country you shouldn’t doubt it for a second because I assure you won’t regret it.

A note from your webmaster: Lorete grew up and lives in Chile. Her father is Canadian and her mother is Chilean. Lorete is building a wonderful website about living in Chile. As a TCK (third culture kid or adult) it's a real treat to get her point of view. Check it out: www.chile-attractions.com
