Appliances/Computer Repair in Ecuador

We are considering retiring in Ecuador and we have a couple of questions about products and services there.

I know we may have to pay duties and taxes on some of the things we bring in but is it cheaper to do that than buy appliances in Ecuador and if we did bring our US appliances with us, can anyone in Ecuador repair them or are the repair people only trained on Ecuadorian appliances (if there is a difference)? Also, are there computer techies there to help us get our systems set up there or is it just done by working with other "Gringos"

That's your personal decision.

I brought my washer machine with me to Cuenca and bought the refrigerator and stove here.

Prices are similar and you can find American brands here.

In Ecuador they repair anything you want. And I mean it, they repair not just throw away spare parts and install new ones. But you have to be very careful due they usually try to overcharge everybody, and even more if you are a foreigner.

About computers, no problem. There are a bunch of computer stores and repair services in Ecuador.

A personal taste

Appliances in Ecuador are of a good standard and the prices are about the same as you would pay in the US. It is a personal choice if you want to relocate everything in a container or if you want to start afresh and ad value to the Ecuador economy by buying their products.

Of course a computer is a little different. Yes there are some wonderful computer techies in Ecuador and especially in Cuenca who can help you set up your internet or any other configurations you may need.

As for appliances Ecuador manufactures a brand called Indurama for washers, stoves, fridge etc. We have had no problems with the products at all.

I would suggest you take a look at some other sites as well as this wonderful website such as www.retire-in-ecuador.com. They have some wonderful information about relocating in their newsletters.
