You actually can make cheap international calls to both landlines and cellular phones and under some circumstances, even for free. Occasionally we come across a product or service that we consider worth highlighting.

Rebtel is one such service:

Here’s how it works:

To make a cheap international call you log into Rebtel online and enter the phone number of a person you want to call in another country.

Rebtel assigns a LOCAL phone number to that person’s phone number. You enter that local number into your phone and make the call – you can use your landline or your cellular phone. Either way, you are now paying only for a local call. (If you use your cellphone you will pay your local mobile phone company’s local rate per minute).

How can you make a FREE international call? Same process. Only if the person you are calling ALSO uses Rebtel, your call is FREE. (If you’re using cellular phones you pay the local rate per minute) but the international portion of your call is FREE – you pay Rebtel nothing – nada – zippo).

Rebtel is super easy to use. You enter the name of the country you are calling from, then the name of the country you plan to call and you can instantly see how much a call will cost. So you know the cost in advance and you pay only for the time you are on the phone.

With Rebtel you can call almost any other country. There are very few you cannot call. Their website clearly states which countries you can call to and from when you enter the two country names. It indicates right away so there is never any confusion. We found it very simple to use!
