Chile Earthquake Damage Summary Sunday

On Sunday night in the TVChile online news and live forums, this is what some Chileans are posting:

Chiguayante seems to be OK. Just localized structural damage. They are without water and electricity.

In Chillán they experienced aftershocks of about 4 on the Richter scale around 9 pm

In Valparaiso forum poster are saying they’ve spoken with family members and most people are fine.

There are phones and electricity in Talca at this time.

In Rosario phone lines are busy and there is not much news.

In Algarroba minor damage but no communication.

In Talca many homes fell. The city didn’t hold up well. But the some forum posters were saying water and electricity seemed to be retuning and phone lines were working.

In Quillota no major damage and no news of lives lost that they know of but there is no water or electricity.

Pichilemu was hit pretty hard. Lots of damage. The water flooded the town all the way to the city center. As far as they know most of the townspeople, warned by a sailor, were able to make it up into the hills.

Cunaripe and Constitución were flooded as well.

By midnight Sunday:

In Talca they were reporting that communication had been re-established around midnight.

Chanco lost many houses and it’s church and the people were up in the hills.

In Constitución alone there are over 350 dead.

In Concepción a building fell in the afternoon trapping approximately 100 people. People were looting the supermarket. The President decreed a curfew from 9pm to 6am and militarized the zone. At 15 minutes after midnight there were aftershocks. At 12:30 midnight there were reports of shooting in some areas.

In San Pedro it is believed there are no fatal victims, just material damage. Phone lines are down.

Great destruction on Isla Mocha.

Talcahuano giant waves washed over the city and caused great damage. There was a tsunami and the city’s stadium filled with 2 meters of water

In Cobquecura people are taking refuge in the hills

In Los Angeles reports are that water is coming back on line but there is no electricity

Dichato was completely flooded by the waves. Everything that was on the beach area is gone

Pelluhue almost total destruction. They’re not sure how many people are dead.

Talca No water food or fuel in the city. Afraid of aftershocks. Sleeping in the streets. A pharmacy donated milk and diapers for babies. Hospital is damaged. Patients are outside on the patio.

In Villa Spring, in San Pedro de La Paz, at 12:30 midnight, civilians were shooting at each other and forum posters were begging someone to contact the military to come in.
