These photos of the Chile earthquake that took place on 27 February 2010 will give you a sense of just how strong the quake was. Registering 8.8 on the Richter scale, it affected hundreds of cities and towns along a 700-kilometer stretch of Chile and caused a tsunami that destroyed or completely washed away dozens of towns. As the second strongest earthquake ever recorded, it was so strong it changed the Earth's rotation (it's position on its axis by 8 cms).
