Cuenca Bound!

by Tony Kistell
(UK)

Hi all, I'm a UK retiree who visited Ecuador in July 2008 with a view to re-locating. Out of everywhere I visited- and that covered just about everywhere! I selected Cuenca as the most appealing and indeed sensible place to settle. I bought an apartment off-plan with the considerable help of Kathy Gonzalez and David Morrill of Cuenca real estate - and great thanks to them. Now, my apartment is ready and I'm finally planning on re-visiting in the next month or two to put everything in place. I had everything booked and ready for travel this month and then learned that Air Comet had gone bust! So I have to do it all again. I shall be there for a month before returning to UK for a while and then returning to Ecuador, hopefully for good. What I'd like to do as quickly as possible when I get there is to equip the apartment with everything I need so that I can move in without an extended hotel stay. So, if anyone can help, I would like to know which shops/stores/craftsmen/artisans etc would be the most appropriate to use. - White goods, Electricals, Furniture, General household items would seem to be a good starting point. I'd particularly like a leather suite and maybe bed and not overly elaborate furniture- more scandinavian straight lines! Any help would be most appreciated with a fee of a bottle or two at an appropriate time and place.
Many thanks, Tony Kistell, alfiepanda@gmail.com

You might want to contact www.cuencahighlife.com which is a network of expatriates in Ecuador. They seem to be very organized and continuously hold and announce events. They also have a newsletter and announcements they send out by email. Sounds like a good place to start.
