Culture Transition Coach Lisa Velazquez

Lisa Velazquez is a Culture Transition Coach who was born and raised in Austria. Instilled with a great desire to travel the world, Lisa has lived and worked in Germany, South Africa, Romania, Greece, and the United States as an international businessperson and member of the Austrian diplomatic corps. She and her family currently reside in the Connecticut area where she now uses her own background and experience to help other expatriates learn to fully enjoy living and working abroad.Culture transition coaching is something from which all expats could greatly benefit. Moving around frequently can cause a lot of confusion for children and adults, individuals and families. Feelings of anger, pain or loss could be avoided with the help of a coach like Lisa. Culture transition coaching is not therapy or counseling. Your culture transition coach is an active listening partner who will provide an outside perspective, resources and tools, and unconditional encouragement, and will help you to draw out your own wisdom, insights, and solutions so you can gain self-knowledge, deeper insight into your own culture, and knowledge about the new culture you’ll be (or already are) living in. You’ll work with your coach to minimize "cultural shock" and learn to fully embrace your cross-cultural experience. With a culture transition coach you identify areas you wish to work on, and your coach will help you draw up a clear plan and hold you accountable to taking the steps you design together until you reach your goals. Coaching sessions are completely confidential and can take place by phone, internet or email. Most people who begin face-to-face coaching eventually decide coaching by phone is more efficient as there are fewer distractions. Your sessions will be most fulfilling if you keep an open mind, are willing to take responsibility for your own actions and feelings, complete the tasks you commit to undertake in a timely manner, and remain open and honest with your coach about how you feel you are progressing.
Lisa describes how she helps expats and families
I help individuals and families adjust to life in a new country by sharing my own insights and by giving them practical tools to fully embrace their cross-cultural experience. This helps my clients to realize their full potential in their new environment much faster and with less stress. In the process of our coaching relationship, they receive not only a step-by-step plan, but also gain self-knowledge, deeper insight into their own culture, and knowledge about the new culture. I also support parents in raising multilingual and multicultural children. As a certified coach, I am an active listening partner. I create a safe and non-judgmental environment where my clients can explore new ways of thinking and gain new insights that enable them to move forward and have the full life they deserve.
