Ecuador Here I Come

by Ed
(Port Saint Lucie, FL)

Looks like the wife and I are moving to Cuenca Ecuador in 4 months. There are some questions that I need answers to.

Who should we ship a 20 container with?

How much hassle is it?

How about our pet?

Is there a anti-American sentiment in Cuenca?

I would really like to exchange e-mails with some one that has gone through the experience and is not in the business of selling services to ex pats. A real consumer with real experiences. we own a home out of town in Tarqui, were we plan on living.

Shipping by container
by: Anonymous

I read your post and I am a new Expat. I came in December. I shared a container with a couple and it was a good deal. The only thing that was bad was the couple I shared it with. They told me a price and said they needed the money before it left for Cuenca. I put the money into there account and my items were shipped from Miami. I then get an email they need more money ($1200)because THEY did not read the invoice correctly. I asked to see the invoice and it was just an email from the company. I could not beleive that a retired couple from the Army were not intelligent enough to get a written invoice in Miami from the shipping company. I wanted to get involved and help but they told me I could not because what they did was not very legal. I had no idea. When you are coming on a retired visa you are allowed to bring your items with you, but not someone who does not have a visa. (ME) I am applying for my business visa All my things were in their hands. OMG... Unless I paid them another $1,000 they were going to keep my things. I ende up getting my items because I brought the police to their home. To make a long story short. Share a container with another couple coming over on the same visa as you. I own a Bed and Breakfast in Cuenca and I have a very nice couple stwith me now and they are returning aying in May from Miami. If you shared the container it would cost you about $2,700.

Hi I would suggest that you check out the website www.retire-in-ecuador.com. They have some great advice and there is a relocation service I believe on the website.

I have had great help and service from the RIE team.

Best of luck with your move.
