Ecuador Pensioner Visa Question

by Sherril
(Canada)

I am turning 55 in December of this year and am already retired. As I was self-employed, I have no company pension and am not yet old enough to qualify for a government pension. I receive well over the $800 minimum monthly income required by the Pensioner Visa, but as I receive it in the form of dividend income, and not as official pension income, I was told by the Ecuadorian Consulate (Canada) that I would not be eligible for the Pensioner Visa.

Since I have read that immigration rules are not always applied consistently from one office to another, I am wondering if anyone knows if dividend income (or possibly withdrawals from a Registered Retirement Savings Plan) might be accepted in place of income from an official pension? Thanks, Sherril

Requirement for Retirement Visa
by: Maite Duran

Good afternoon Sherril,

In regards to your question, you would have to prove that your income is $800 monthly, this has to be proven to the ecuatorian consulate.

Now the requirements for retirement visa are:

1. Must show proof of continual, minimum monthly income of $800, plus $100 for each dependent filing for residency. (I.e. husband, wife, and child will require proof of $1,000 minimum monthly income.) The proof of income document must be [1] translated and notarized (can be done by a notary service), [2] recognized and [3] certified by the Ecuadorian embassy/consulate.
2. If married, the original marriage certificate, [1] apostilled by the Secretary of State in which the document was issued, [2] translated and notarized, and [3] recognized and [4] certified by the Ecuadorian embassy/consulate. If you have a dependent spousal relationship but do not have a marriage license, you will need the original legal documentation of your long-term relationship, [1] apostilled by the Secretary of State in which the document was issued, [2] translated and notarized (can be done by a notary service), and [3]recognized and [4] certified by the Ecuadorian embassy/consulate.
3. If you have minor dependents relocating with you, the original of each child?s birth certificate, [1] apostilled by the Secretary of State in which the document was issued, [2] translated and notarized (can be done by a notary service), [3]recognized and [4] certified by the Ecuadorian embassy/consulate.
4. As all documents must be translated into Spanish, you may want to have that done at the consulate or Embassy. Some embassy/consulates offer translation services for a fee, some do not. Call the consulate to verify services offered and fees charged.
5. Certified (notarized) color copies of passport and last visa for Ecuador (this can be done in our office but must be done after arrival into Ecuador);
6. Movimiento Migratorio (you obtain this document after arriving in Ecuador);
7. 6 passport pictures;
8. You must have at least 40 days left on your visa;
9. Police Report from the last 5 years, translated, apostilled, notarized then recognized and certified by the Ecuadorean Consulate.
