When I was just learning Spanish I used to confuse various words with each other.

On my arrival in Chile, you can imagine the reaction I would get in restaurants when I asked if they had any "empleadas calientes" instead of "empanadas."

My parents die on the beach

It is very easy to get mixed up when you only half speak a language. I just got an email in from someone who wanted to stay at Casa Florence, one of the hiddenpousadasbrazil.com collection of pousadas in Rio de Janeiro, because it is near Leblon beach where her relatives (parentes) live. Except that what she actually wrote was "onde morram" which means "where they die"... I hope not, but with the heat here at the moment...
