i have some questions for ecuador expats

by linda
(nv)

my husband and i are considering moving out of country. he has a lung issue, not on O2 but gets short of breath. i have loads of questions to ask anyone that lives in cuenca or on the coast, such as bahia de caraquez. if there is anyone out there that won't mind me asking questions about the county/area where you live, it would greatly be appreciated.

some of the questions i need answer for:
safety along the coast
health care
rents on apts
how many expats in your area and is it easy to meet them
food

thank you so much for reading my note and i hope to hear from anyone soon.

you can contact me at nvferretrunner@yahoo.com
thanks

C O P D
by: Brandon Bouye

I also have C O P D and have been doing research on different cities both high and low and have pretty much decided to stay on the beach, probably Salinas as the weather there seems to be about like our weather here in Puerto Rico. I would love to stay here, but it is just to expensive and getting worse. Will be going to Ecuador for the first time in August for a month. Intend to try a few days in Baños, but will then most likely head for the coast as I also can't stand cold. (that is anything below 70 degrees F) If I can be of any other assistance, I can be reached at brandybouye@yahoo.com

Patients with lung problems
by: Henr Lord

Cuenca is about 8,000 ft. in elevation and may cause problems for people with COPD. My wife and I have just moved to Cuenca with our mothers. My mom is 85 and does have mild COPD and she is doing ok here. I am a respiratory therapist and have noticed even with normal lungs that it takes a bit to acclimate but it is not anything to be concerned about if you just take it easy. You can get oxygen from Glomedical in Quito, Cuenca and Guayaquil. Getting used to the elevation can depend on where you are coming from. If you live in the mountains already it will be easier to acclimate then if you lived at sea level. We lived in Sacramento, CA prior to moving here and so far we have had very little problems. The larger cities to have good hospitals and medical care. If you have any other questions I can be reached my email lordbill55@yahoo.com.

Same Questions
by: Jerry

Hi Linda, We're also considering a move to Cuenca, Ecuador. My wife has RA and your medical concerns are very much the same as ours. I'd greatly appreciate you sharing any info.

By the way, we're also looking for that "one" kind person who would not mind being of assistance to us. Our plan is to visit Cuenca on 2/14 and explore the opportunity of renting for a year ... and just see how it "goes" from there.

Thanks ~ Jerry (wcy7234@gmail.com)
