by RA
(Texas, USA)

How extensive is the medical exam? I have some atrial fibrilation, and want to know if that will keep me from obtaining residency.

We asked the US Embassy in Bogota for You
by: GoSouthExpat

We contacted the US Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia to see if they could answer your question. Here's how they responded:

Regarding the question posed on your website, the medical examination consists of a general physical examination, lab work that includes blood testing, and an examination of the subject's vaccination history. Illness is not necessarily a disqualifying factor in the immigrant visa review process.

We cannot comment on a specific medical case until the subject has been examined by a panel physician and has proceeded to the interview stage of the immigrant visa process. It is in an applicant's best interest to disclose and provide detailed information to the panel physician concerning any ongoing medical concerns.

Additional information on the medical examination and the entire immigrant visa process is available online at http://bogota.usembassy.gov

Thank you.
