san pedro prison tours in la paz bolivia
(Bolivia)
I've heard, and read on the news, that Bolivian government is banning any foreigners who take or have taken the San Pedro prison tours in La Paz Bolivia (if they can be identified, and many of them can as they were on the news).
Frankly I'm glad the San Pedro prison tours are over and done with, if they really are. I was reading this article published by the UK Guardian on 8 July 2009:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jul/08/bolivia-bans-tourists-entering-jail
I think it's a disgrace that tourists would take this tour and others would feel so disappointed that they no longer can. Even if the guards and prisoners are corrupt there is such a thing as having a sense of respect for human dignity and knowing how to just say 'no thank you'.
You might want to see what life is really like in the San Pedro prison and the women's prison in Obrajes, which I used to visit regularly with my mom when I was a child.

See why a die hard Brad Pitt fan would very SADLY ask you NOT to support his movie Marching Powder (to be released in 2010).
