would be interested in any info. about getting a telephone line installed. just bought land near sucre, bolivia and the telephone company say i am too far out to get a line as the quality would be poor. need the line for internet. does anyone have experience of this? am looking into satellite possibilities and am going to petition cotes to see if they can do anything. any advice, etc. would be appreciated.

getting an internet connection in rural bolivia

Hi. Have you tried contacting Telecel (Bolivia's cellphone company) for their new TIGO wireless internet option? From what I understand, it's the size of a flash memory stick you just put into your USB port and supposedly with this you can have internet anywhere.

Because it's connected to their cellphone tower and satellite system you supposedly do not need a phone line to use it. I'm not completely clear on that but it's worth calling them and asking.

It's called the INTERNET MOVIL TIGO 3G (in English we refer to 3G as Third Generation ware).

This is the page on their website with the information (although it's in Spanish) but it explains everything - even how to use it.

According to this page, its PLUG AND PLAY - you just plug it into your computer and on you go. Nothing else to do.

Sure would like to hear back from you as to whether this ends up being a solution for you or not. Have a couple of other people in similar situations looking for answers too.
