Veterinary services in Ecuador

Hello every one. I am a new member to the Gringo tree community. Presently, I still reside in the U.S. However, I am on a scouting mission to find a place to reside outside the U.S. I am visiting Costa Rica next month and will be in Ecuador right after the first of the year for a one month tour. I have awhile yet before I am of retirement age. Most likely, I'll find a place I like, set up a residence and at least a part time business and travel back and forth to the States for awhile.

I have been a practicing veterinarian for 15 years, have spent time working in Mexico, Guatemala, and will be working in El Salvador in November. In reference to Ecuador, I was wondering what sort of veterinary services are available in some of the larger communities such as Cuenca. Besides my general practice experience I have alot of specialty training in advanced surgery. Is there a need or does a market even exist for a U.S. trained veterinarian in Cuenca. Perhaps someone that could offer such services to expats?

Any advice would be helpful. Someone I should contact? If I can at least gather some preliminary information then perhaps my one month tour in Ecuador would be a bit more productive.
